Did you know that in 2019 there were over 670,000 new companies set up in the United Kingdom alone? That means that every single day 1835 companies were officially set up!
Over the last 20 years there has been a huge 63% increase in the number of businesses being set up. a staggering figure which could be explained by a number of factors including the normal Millennium Generation. Despite this huge rise and the sheer number of companies being set up, there are also 509,000 company disillusions in 2019, which is actually the largest number of company deaths since 2009 to 2010, in other words since the last recession!
This means a number of things: a) It is becoming harder than ever for small businesses to survive; b) That many companies don’t make it past the five or ten year mark. In fact 60% of businesses closed in three to five years, increasing to 70% of small businesses closed before they reached the 10 year mark.”
